Northern Voice 2008

Last week was Northernvoice 2008 at UBC, this was my first NV, and I had a really great time! So this is a bit delayed, but I seem to have a really really bad habit of writing half of a post and not finishing. (I assume it'd be bad to not blog about the blogging conference you attended.. better late than never..)

I really enjoyed Roland Tanglao, Jordan Behan, and Warren Frey's Videoblogging 101. In which they covered mobile live blogging via a cellphone, liveblogging through ustream.tv, post production and high quality HD recording.

DaveO's F*** Stats, Make Art presentation very inspiring. A discussion of his life experiences in reintroducing art for creations sake, rather than it being about how many people visit your website etc. Basic message: get out and paint!
Listen to the AUDIO of the talk!

Nancy White's presentation "Why I slowed down blogging and started drawing on walls" was also pretty awesome- Shut up and draw!

Some live notes:
- Imagine a beautiful image you saw, how did you feel- did you take a deep breath?
- Shut up and draw
-listen
- making visual marks being powerful/thought organisers
- She asks what would this look like online? -
- There's nothing quite as sensual as eating together? Nothing can replace those simple, beautiful 'real' moments.
-Miscommunication cloud. Asking: What does that mean to you?
- visual maps, bringing clarity to conference calls/meetings/online discussions.
- can be brought offline/online etc.
- capturing what is going on visually..
- whiteboard/ drawing online
- everyone can create images, we just 'forget' how to when we grow up.
- be obvious accept offers fail cheerfully

Thanks for a great couple of days Northernvoice presenters/organizers/volunteers! Look forward to next year!
